Kool Herc is sick and can’t pay his hospital bills
DJ Kool Herc will go down in history as one of the original pioneers of Hip-Hop. While he is labeled as the Godfather of Hip-Hip,” notoriety or acclaim doesn’t pay the bills. Dj Kool Herc is said to have a serious illness and is in desperate need of surgery. However, he is unable to pay his hospital bills and cannot pay for the surgery. It’s sad when you are one of the founders of something worth multi millions, yet you can’t even reap the fruits of your harvest.
Apparently the serious illness is kidney stones. I must admit that when I heard this originally I was wondering what “illness” he had. Now, if you are on Twitter I know you seen the numerous tweets about donating to a paypal account for Herc or how rappers need to pay his bills. This sparked a question in my head. If it wasnt Dj Kool Herc would people care as much? Everyday people are stricken with disease and are on their death beds and yet people still disregard them.
While it’s a shame that Herc can’t afford to pay his bills, there are people who can’t afford to pay their bills as well. Millions of people cannot afford health care, rent, car, education, and other necessities, but just because he is the Godfather of Hip-Hop, he is no more important than anyone else. I do like that the hip hop community is coming together to help one of their own. Hopefully, Herc will be able to recover.
